S. FURRE FUNERAL RITES HELD SUNDAY

Montesano Pioneer Buried in Wynooche Cemetery Under Odd Fellows Auspices

Funeral services were held from the Whiteside chapel here at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon for Svend Furre.  Rev. W. R. Caldwell officiated and burial was made in Wynooche cemetery.  The services were under the auspices of Silvia Lodge No. 38, I. O. O. F. here.

Mr. Furre died in an Aberdeen hospital Saturday morning (May 21, 1927) after an illness of several weeks.  He was born in Norway, January 26, 1852, and emigrated to the United States in 1882.  He lived in North Dakota until 1890, when he removed to Bothell.  In July, 1893, he came to Montesano where he had lived ever since.  At the time he was taken ill he was engaged in the chicken farming business.  He was a member of the Bothell Odd Fellows lodge and three years ago was presented by that body with a 30 year medal.

He is survived by one brother, Samuel Furre, Namsos, Norway, and three sisters, Karen Hildrum, Oislatern; Elen Oidsvold, Bodo, and Karoline Furre, Namdalseide, all in Norway.  He had no relatives in America, nor had he seen any of them for 40 years.  (The Montesano Vidette, Friday, May 27, 1927, Page 10)

S. Furre.  S. Furre, pioneer Montesano resident, died this morning in a local hospital following a brief illness.  The dead man was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, Montesano.  The body was removed to the Whiteside chapel at Montesano.  Funeral services will probably be held Sunday Afternoon.  (Aberdeen Daily World, Saturday, May 21, 1927, Page 14)

Svend Furre.  MONTESANO, May 23. – (Special.) – Funeral services were held in the Whiteside chapel here yesterday for Svend Furre, 75, old time resident of Montesano, who died Saturday morning after long illness.  Mr. Furre had lived in Montesano and vicinity for 34 years, and was a well known rancher and poultry-man.

Born in Norway in 1852, Mr. Furre came to this country in 1882.  For eight years he lived in North Dakota.  When he came to Washington in 1890, he first settled in Bothell, but after three years he came to Montesano, where he lived until his death.  He was a member of Bothell lodge of Odd Fellows. 

The Odd Fellows had charge of funeral rites.  Interment was given in Wynooche cemetery.  (Aberdeen Daily World, Monday, May 23, 1927, Page 3)
